By issue #122, the writing on Spawn had settled into the collaborative model of Todd McFarlane (plot) and Brian Holguin (script) that had guided the series since the late 1990s, with Angel Medina handling interior pencils — a team that steered the book through its ambitious post-#100 reinvention. Greg Capullo, who had long since stepped back from interior art to pursue other projects, provided the cover alongside inker Danny Miki, maintaining visual brand continuity on the book's exterior while Medina handled the pages within. The issue falls within a phase of the series when monthly sales had contracted well below the blockbuster numbers of the early 1990s, resulting in a notably smaller print run than earlier chapters of the run — a production reality that has since made surviving high-grade copies relatively harder to locate.
