Spawn #81

Spawn #81 brings a genuinely unsettling image from the 1999 Image Comics series, with cover pencils by Greg Capullo and inks by Todd McFarlane: Spawn himself dominates the composition, his massive red-and-black cape billowing dramatically as he holds aloft a skeletal skull, his own ravaged face twisted and hollow-eyed beneath it. The muted gray-blue background throws every jagged edge of his tattered costume into sharp relief, giving the whole piece a brooding, almost painterly atmosphere. With the story titled "Devil Inside" and the regular creative team of McFarlane, Brian Holguin, and Capullo on board, this issue promises exactly the dark, visceral energy that defines this era of the series.
