Thanos has defeated earth's heroes and created the planet of Necronos while stripping the Surfer of his powers and keeping him as his personal archivist. The Silver Surfer kills himself rather than serve Thanos, but the mad titan brings him back to life. This whole scenario turns out to be a fantasy in the Surfer's eye as he and Adam Warlock wait in reserve to attack Thanos.
