Silver Surfer #41

The cover of this 1990 Marvel issue sets a wonderfully offbeat tone: the Silver Surfer strides forward through what appears to be a crowded cosmic waiting room, surrounded by a remarkably diverse assembly of alien beings — reptilian, insectoid, tentacled, and otherwise — all seemingly queued up together in one gloriously strange interstellar scene. Ron Lim and Tom Christopher's cover art captures the Surfer looking determined yet slightly overwhelmed amid the otherworldly crowd, perfectly teasing the story's wry "Job Hunting!" premise. Jim Starlin's 1990 run consistently found fresh angles on the Surfer's cosmic existence, and this issue looks like a genuinely fun departure from the usual galaxy-spanning action.
