Shen confronts Warren about the dreams he has that are brought on by the Shadow. At the same time the Shadow takes its next victim, Cruz, and then that night fills Warren's dreams with Cruz's life. Shen and Warren meet again the following day and head to Shen's home to discuss Warren's dreams and his past. It's this past and the inadvertent death of a little girl, Alice, that lead to the creation of the Shadow when Warren can't deal with the guilt he feels due to his involvement in Alice's death.
