Shade, the Changing Man #11

Issue eleven of Peter Milligan, Chris Bachalo, and Mark Pennington's mature-readers series opens "Edge of Vision Part I" with a cover by Brendan McCarthy that pulses with psychedelic menace — a massive, distorted figure looms against a riot of neon greens, pinks, and purples, one clawed hand reaching upward toward a helicopter hovering overhead. Scrawled across the bottom in jagged lettering, the words "Kill Kopter — Kill Krazy — Kill Kill Kill Kill Kill" radiate an unhinged, feverish energy that perfectly captures the series' signature blend of surrealism and dread. McCarthy's painterly cover makes this May 1991 installment impossible to overlook on a spinner rack.
