Joe Kubert's cover for this 1985 DC issue says everything with quiet power: a Black man with dark wings stands bound in heavy chains, flanked by Sgt. Rock in his sergeant's helmet and a Tuskegee-style airman wearing flight goggles and a yellow scarf. The tagline — "From slavery…to the Civil Rights March on Washington…Black people have fought the hard fight all the way!" — makes the thematic ambition of "Angels with Black Wings! Book Two" unmistakably clear. With Robert Kanigher writing and a full Kubert family inking team backing Adrian Gonzales's interior art, this is one of the more thoughtfully provocative entries in the long-running series.
