“Take Me Home!”

Joe Kubert's cover for Sgt. Rock #364 delivers an immediate gut-punch of tension: a blindfolded GI grips Rock's shoulder on a battle-scarred hillside, warning him "R-Rock… I got a feelin' we ain't alone!" — and the enemy soldiers and tank lurking at the edges of the image make it clear that instinct is dead right. The warm orange sun blazing behind the two soldiers throws their vulnerability into sharp relief against a landscape that hides real danger. "Take Me Home!" promises the kind of gritty, human-scale WWII drama that made this DC series essential reading in 1982.
