This April 1982 issue hits hard with a Joe Kubert cover that captures Easy Company at their most desperate — wounded soldiers slumped and scattered around a dark central pillar bearing a grim roll call: Killed in Action, Ice Cream Soldier, Wild Man, Jackie Johnson, 4-Eyes, Little Sure Shot, Short Round, Big Round, Bulldozer, Canary, and Rock himself. Sgt. Rock crouches in the foreground, knife drawn and ammunition bandolier across his chest, every line of his face set against whatever threat has brought Easy Co. to this brutal moment. Titled "No Grave for Easy!", this one promises the kind of unflinching WWII drama that made Sgt. Rock one of DC's most enduring war titles.
