Few war comics could stage a cover tableau quite like this 1981 DC entry in the long-running Sgt. Rock series. Joe Kubert's cover art delivers an immediate gut-punch: a sweat-soaked man buried up to his neck in sand, surrounded by a creeping swarm of ants, while armed Nazi soldiers and a tank loom behind him — and Easy Company stands nearby, one soldier crying out "D-Don't move, Easy! Your gettin' killed… won't help me!" It's a tense, visceral setup for "The Ant Soldier," with interior work by writer Robert Kanigher and artist Frank Redondo bringing the full weight of Easy Company's wartime world to life.
