Mary and Frankie get engaged while in college, but she then meets Ronald and is attracted to him. After they kiss, she learns “the tragic truth” that she doesn’t love Frankie and they break up. But Ronald later says their relationship was just “college romance stuff” and marriage is not in his plans. However, Frankie tells Mary that Ronald only said this because he’s from a poor family and didn’t think he was good enough for her. Frankie drives Mary and Ronald to the justice of the peace for their wedding.
