History

The series was announced in September 2024 and grew out of the renewed fan fascination with the Rogue–Magneto Savage Land chapters that X-Men '97 had reignited; a ComicBook.com analysis at announcement time explicitly linked the two. Writer Tim Seeley, known for creator-owned work on Local Man and Hack/Slash, described the assignment as 'a dream job, and probably the absolute perfect Marvel gig,' and he publicly clarified that despite surface-level parallels to the animated show, the series carries no direct continuity tie to X-Men '97 and treats the Rogue–Magneto relationship as backdrop rather than centrepiece. Penciller and inker Zulema Scotto Lavina — promoted at launch as a 'new artist sensation' — handled both line and inking duties on the issue, with Rachelle Rosenberg on colours and VC's Ariana Maher on letters; cover duties across the series went to Kaare Andrews, who consciously styled his covers after Jim Lee's early-'90s X-Men aesthetic, complete with corner-box character cut-outs evoking the Claremont–Lee era publications the story inhabits.
