“Party Pooper”

Reggie Mantle is in top smug form on this 1968 Archie Series cover by Dan DeCarlo and Rudy Lapick, delivering a soccer lecture to a hapless Arch while a teammate tumbles to the ground nearby. The speech bubble says it all — "You better forget about soccer, Arch! It's a game where you have to USE YOUR HEAD!!" — and the cheering crowd along the sideline, including what looks like Betty and Veronica, makes the moment all the more entertaining. It's a wonderfully breezy slice of Riverdale rivalry that captures everything fun about Reggie at his wisecracking best.
