“To Be a R.E.B.E.L., Part 1”

The cover of this 2010 DC series issue crackles with cosmic tension as a wild-eyed, long-haired villain — rings blazing with green energy — tears into two Green Lanterns against a star-strewn purple sky, with a third figure tumbling overhead in the chaos. Francis Portela's linework gives the whole scene a kinetic, barely-contained ferocity, from the chains whipping through space to the snarling alien Lanterns struggling to hold their ground. Writer Tony Bedard kicks off "To Be a R.E.B.E.L., Part 1" with a confrontation that promises serious consequences for the Green Lantern Corps and the R.E.B.E.L.S. alike.
