Princess Leia #2
Princess Leia #2 is the second chapter of Marvel's inaugural Leia-centric miniseries — the first Star Wars solo title ever published under Disney's rebooted, unified canon — and it decisively deepens the emotional architecture established in issue #1 by moving the Leia–Evaan partnership off the Rebel base and into active mission territory. The issue's most resonant moment is a vision sequence on Naboo in which Leia passes a mural of Queen Padmé Amidala and experiences an inexplicable flicker of recognition, a beat that elegantly bridges the prequel and original trilogies within the new canon without spelling out the secret Leia has no way of consciously knowing. Paired with a series of childhood flashbacks featuring Bail Organa that anchor Leia's sense of cultural duty to a specific, personal history, the issue demonstrates that a Star Wars comic could deliver genuine character interiority, not just action choreography. It also advances the central canon contribution of the miniseries as a whole: fully establishing Evaan Verlaine as a durable, named Alderaanian survivor whose loyalty to Leia frames the stakes of an entire people's extinction.

The Princess Leia miniseries was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2014 as one of three flagship Star Wars titles marking Marvel's return to the license after Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. Editor Jordan D. White sought out Mark Waid specifically because Waid had expressed that Leia was his favorite Star Wars character, and Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso publicly cited the publisher's commitment to diversity as a driving reason to center a solo series on her. Penciller Terry Dodson, whose wife Rachel Dodson provided inks throughout, brought his fashion-conscious, character-expressive linework to the book and has spoken about his enthusiasm for following the rich costuming traditions of both the original and prequel films. The five-issue run — including this issue, released March 18, 2015 — was later collected in a trade paperback on November 3, 2015.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Published March 18, 2015, by Marvel Comics; written by Mark Waid, with pencils by Terry Dodson, inks by Rachel Dodson, and colors by Jordie Bellaire.
- Second of five issues in Star Wars: Princess Leia, the first-ever Leia solo series published under the post-Disney unified Star Wars canon.
- Evaan Verlaine, who made her first-ever appearance in issue #1, is first identified by her full surname 'Verlaine' in this issue, according to the Star Wars Comics Wiki character index.
- The issue features Leia's first canonical in-story encounter with an image of Padmé Amidala — a glass mural in Theed on Naboo — during which she experiences a brief, Force-tinged vision of her birth mother turning to face her, an event unwitnessed by Evaan.
- Bail Organa appears in multiple childhood flashback sequences, used by Waid to dramatize the Alderaanian cultural values — including the symbolic meal of boiled ruica — that motivate Leia's mission to gather surviving Alderaanians.
- The action moves to the Naboo city of Keren, where Leia and Evaan seek out the Melodic Order, a cloister of Alderaanian musicians whose leader Uwa Pareece has concealed the destruction of Alderaan from them — both Pareece and several Order members receive their first appearances here.
- A subplot introduces Tace and Tula, Alderaanian sisters on opposing sides of the conflict — Tula is revealed to be an Imperial officer — seeding a moral tension that runs through the rest of the series.
- The full series, including this issue, was collected in the Star Wars: Princess Leia trade paperback (ISBN 978-0-7851-9317-3), released November 3, 2015; a second printing of the individual issue also exists.
