In "Gargantua, the Phi Beta Gorilla," a scientist's cosmic ray experiment turns a gorilla into a talking intellect with a surprising twist: he tries to swap minds with a hapless human. Written by Bill Woolfolk and brought to life by Jack Cole’s sharp art and inks, this 1948 Quality Comics standout blends sci-fi absurdity with classic superhero antics. The cover, also by Jack Cole, captures the gorilla’s dramatic transformation in bold, expressive lines.

Manhunter [Dan Richards]

Manhunter and his faithful dog Thor go undercover at Cook and Cort's Colossal Circus to investigate a string of dangerous "accidents"—a fire, a fall, and collapsed bleachers—that have plagued the big top. When an aerial performer is killed during a performance, the rope cut deliberately, Manhunter must use Thor's keen nose to sniff out the real saboteur before the killer can strike again. As suspicion falls on Boo-Hoo, the unpopular clown, Manhunter discovers the truth runs deeper into the circus's twisted business dealings.
