"The Headless Horse Player" features Ken Shannon, a private eye, investigating a case involving a midget and a scheme related to horse racing and betting. "Handsome Hogan" follows Patrolman Larry Hogan, who decides he will no longer be called merely "handsome" and insists on earning a reputation as a serious, effective police officer rather than relying on his appearance.
Inspector Denver of homicide suspects that a wealthy man's fatal car crash is no accident—someone sabotaged the brakes—and when the investigation points to the victim's young wife and her lover, the lawyer, Denver finds himself stymied by lack of proof. Determined to see justice served even when the law won't cooperate, he devises an unconventional trap to force a confession before the guilty can slip away.
A T-Man undercover as a small-time crook steals fake intelligence documents from a London townhouse to infiltrate a dangerous spy ring—but once the phony plans are in enemy hands, he's marked for death by a ruthless organization that won't take no for an answer. With enemy agents closing in and betrayal coming from unexpected quarters, Pete Trask must stay alive long enough to expose the spy master pulling the strings.
Detective Alan Sykes arrives at a scene that appears to be a straightforward suicide—a man found dead with his head in a gas oven—but a closer look at the evidence convinces Sykes the case is far more sinister than it seems. As he questions the victim's wife, the detective uncovers details that point toward a darker truth beneath the surface. With a keen eye and sharp questioning, Sykes works to expose what really happened that night.
Patrolman Larry Hogan's movie-star looks have become his curse—the chief keeps him on safe, high-profile assignments while tougher cops do the real police work, and the newspapers won't let him live it down. When Larry finally gets a chance to prove himself during a mansion robbery, he tackles the crooks single-handedly and faces an outcome that might just free him from his unwanted reputation at last.
