In "City of Nomads: Part III: Cry 'Rebel!'", the tide turns aboard the great city ship as apes seize victory—only for an assassin to strike back with a cannon, igniting chaos and setting fire to the rebel’s section. The first glimpse of a human figure emerges from the smoke: Alaric, leader of the enslaved humans, who wounds the ape commander Barbarus and leads a desperate escape in lifeboats. Written by Doug Moench and illustrated by Tom Sutton with inks by Sutton, the story unfolds with tense momentum, while Ron Wilson’s cover pencils and Mike Esposito’s inks capture the moment of revelation.

The apes win the battle and put the orangutangs' part of the ship to the torch. The assassin uses a canon to destroy the great city ship's main mast and puts the rebel's part of the ship to the torch. The assassin goes to the hold where the human slaves are chained and frees them. We see him for the first time; he is human; he is Alaric and leads the humans in battle against the apes. Alaric wounds Barbarus. The humans escape the ship aboard lifeboats.
