New Mutants #1
This collection launches the 2010 New Mutants series, reuniting a team of former students and allies including Dani Moonstar, Cannonball, Sunspot, Magik, and others. The story focuses on David Haller, also known as Legion, whose fractured psyche and reality-altering powers pose a grave threat to the team and the wider Marvel Universe. Written by Zeb Wells with art by Diogenes Neves, the volume collects issues #1-5 of the series.
In "Return of the Legion, Part 1: We Were Many, Once," the New Mutants reunite in a quiet Colorado town with a shocking discovery: Karma’s consciousness is trapped inside David Haller—better known as Legion. As a violent alter ego takes control, the team is thrown into chaos when Legion escapes to hunt down Dani Moonstar, now imprisoned nearby. Written by Zeb Wells and brought to life by Diógenes Neves with inks by Cam Smith and Ed Tadeo, and colors by John Rauch, this pivotal issue marks a bold new chapter in the mutant team’s story, with Adam Kubert’s striking cover capturing the tension.
In "Return of the Legion, Part 1: We Were Many, Once," Illyana’s sudden return from Limbo sets the team in motion, as the old New Mutants reunite to track down Dani and Shan. Sam and Bobby uncover Karma bound in a rundown bar in Westcliffe, Colorado, while Magik and Magma discover Legion imprisoned in a concrete tomb behind a suburban home—each clue pulling them deeper into a mystery that ties back to their shared past.
In the quiet town of Colorado, Bobby and Sam discover the seemingly lifeless Karma—only to learn her consciousness is trapped inside David Haller, the fractured mind of Legion. When one of Legion’s volatile personalities erupts, the group is thrown into chaos as he escapes to hunt down Dani Moonstar, now imprisoned.
In "Return of the Legion, Part 3: Cognitive Therapy," the New Mutants face a desperate fight as Legion threatens Dani, pushing her to the brink. Magik makes a bold move, stepping through Karma’s portal to confront David inside his fractured mind, where the battle for his soul begins.
In "Return of the Legion, Part 4: Invasive Surgery," Magik ventures into the fractured mind of Legion, where she teams up with Karma to help David Haller reclaim control from the chaos of his many personalities. As the physical battle rages around them, the stakes rise in the psychic realm, where every choice could mean the difference between salvation and surrender.
In "Debrief," Dani confronts the quiet sting of being left off the team roster, while Xi'an faces a tense session with Dr. Rao and the Science Team. Meanwhile, Rogue and the others pour their focus into healing Legion, and Warlock arrives to find Doug Ramsey’s grave eerily empty.
