New Avengers #2

Part of Marvel's "Heroic Age" initiative, this second issue of the relaunched New Avengers series features cover art by Stuart Immonen and Wade von Grawbadger that crackles with raw energy — literally, as a massive, roaring figure clutches a glowing, lightning-wreathed object while Ms. Marvel, a blonde female hero, the Thing, and Wolverine are caught up in the chaos around him. The composition is dynamic and urgent, with the looming central figure dominating the frame against a stormy red sky that makes the whole scene feel like something has gone very wrong, very fast. With Brian Michael Bendis scripting and Immonen on interior art as well, this 2010 series was already shaping up to be one of Marvel's most visually ambitious team books.
