Bud Fisher's beloved odd-couple duo is in fine comedic form on this 1949 DC offering, with cover art by Sheldon Mayer bringing the gag to life: the tall, lanky Mutt leans over a campfire to scold the short, top-hatted Jeff about washing a fish before cooking it — only for Jeff to fire back with the perfectly reasonable (if dubious) logic that the fish spent its whole life in water. Fifty-two pages of this kind of cheerful, snappy humor make it a genuinely fun read from the golden era of newspaper-strip comics adapted for the page.
