The cover of this 1949 DC offering says it all — the short, rotund Jeff stands contentedly in the pouring rain, swaddled in a bright yellow raincoat and his signature top hat, while a flustered Mutt leans out from shelter demanding to know why Jeff is wearing his raincoat. Jeff's perfectly logical reply ("You wouldn't want me to get your new suit wet, would you?") delivers the gentle, good-natured humor that made Bud Fisher's duo a beloved comics institution. With cover art by Sheldon Mayer and 52 pages of Bud Fisher's classic comedy, issue #40 is a charming slice of mid-century funny-book fun.
