Muggsy Mouse #3

Muggsy Mouse #3 from Magazine Enterprises (Aug–Sept 1951) puts the title character front and center in a wonderfully chaotic splash: Muggsy comes hurtling down a towering slide, wide-eyed and airborne — one checkered shoe already flying off — heading straight for a big wooden barrel labeled "Fearless Muggsy's High Dive," while a smirking red squirrel watches from poolside with a hose in hand. Artist Fred Ottenheimer's loose, rubbery linework captures every bit of the slapstick energy perfectly. At just a dime, this ten-cent package of cartoon mayhem is a warm reminder of how much fun funny-animal comics brought to the summer of 1951.
