Millie the Model Comics #89

The cover of this March 1959 Marvel charmer says it all: a dressed-to-the-nines Millie — all in red and still clutching her handbag — reaches for her door handle, dreaming of finally kicking off her heels, completely unaware that a crowd of party-hat-wearing friends is packed into her apartment ready to shout "Surprise!" Dan DeCarlo's clean, expressive linework captures the comedic tension perfectly, from Millie's weary optimism to the barely-contained glee of her guests peeking around the door. Millie the Model #89 is a delightful slice of 1950s humor comics at their most warmly relatable.
