“Peril from the Past [Part 1]”

Mighty Samson #3 (1965) kicks off the gripping "Peril from the Past [Part 1]" with Otto Binder’s tight script and Frank Thorne’s dynamic art bringing the hero’s latest challenge to life. When a toxic leak threatens the region, Dr. Pitt’s mysterious past resurfaces as he leads the team through ancient vehicles to the source—only to face a reckoning when Sharmaine, hidden aboard a helicopter, thwarts his escape. The cover by Morris Gollub captures the tension perfectly, setting the stage for a story where history, sacrifice, and survival collide.

Dr. Pitt uses ancient vehicles to get the group to the toxic leak site, and helps them find radioactive waste to neutralize it. When he tries to make his getaway by helicopter the suspicious Sharmaine, who has stowed away, stops him. When he's injured by being thrown from the helicopter in a struggle, he agrees to release the radioactive materials into the flame, ending the threat and dooming himself. He will finally face the death he evaded centuries before.
