Master of Kung Fu #103

Gene Day's cover for issue #103 pulls you right into an underwater world of tension — Shang-Chi, clad in his red-and-gold robe and wearing a headband, cradles an unconscious figure while armed divers swarm around them and a striking blue eagle spreads its wings overhead. The cover copy promises "Mystery! Intrigue! Kung Fu Action!" for the story titled "A City Asea," and the composition delivers on that atmosphere with a real sense of urgency and scale. Doug Moench's long run on the series was producing some of its most ambitious storytelling in 1981, and this underwater-tinged chapter looks like a fine example of why this title had such devoted readers.
