“The Friendship Thing”

The second issue of this four-part limited series finds Mary Jane herself looking pensive and a little uneasy at a coffee shop booth, her signature red hair framing those expressive green eyes, while a shorter blonde friend beside her clutches a whipped-cream-topped drink with equal unease — two teens clearly mid-drama in the most relatable setting imaginable. A second pair of figures is visible through the background, adding a quiet social tension to the scene that fits "The Friendship Thing" perfectly. Takeshi Miyazawa's cover pencils, inked by Norman Lee and colored by Christina Strain, give the whole thing a warm, emotionally honest energy that makes this 2005 series feel genuinely refreshing.
