Marvel Zombies #4

Arthur Suydam's cover for this penultimate chapter of the five-issue limited series presents a gruesome tableau of undead Marvel heroes in various states of decay — a winged zombie swoops overhead while a massive, heavily damaged figure dominates the center, flanked by a crouching female zombie soaked in blood and what appear to be translucent, ghostly forms lurching in the foreground. The palette of sickly yellows, bloody reds, and eerie blues gives the whole scene a queasy, painterly dread that perfectly suits Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips's horror-tinged take on the Marvel Universe. With one issue left to go, this 2006 series had clearly committed fully to its unsettling premise.
