“The Messiah Machine!”

Spider-Man and Hawkeye make for a terrifically kinetic pairing in this June 1974 entry in Marvel's premier team-up series, and John Romita's cover captures exactly why — Spidey leaps acrobatically overhead while Hawkeye draws his bow and lets fly, both heroes pressing hard against a crowd of hulking armored figures whose metal forms already show the damage from arrow impacts and fists. The corner vignettes showing each hero solo frame the central brawl beautifully, and the bold promise of "The Messiah Machine!" lurking within makes the whole package hard to put down.
