“Whatever Happened to Crusher Hogan?”

In "Whatever Happened to Crusher Hogan?", a 1994 Marvel Tales standout, the retired boxer and self-proclaimed Spider-Man co-creator finds his past catching up to him when a new threat emerges at the gym where he works. Written by Tom DeFalco and illustrated by Ron Frenz, with inks by Josef Rubinstein and colors by Nelson Yomtov, the story weaves together old legends and present-day danger as Spidey steps in to help Crusher Hogan and fighter Bobby Chance face the menace Manslaughter. The cover by Ron Lim and Bud LaRosa captures the gritty, nostalgic tone of this character-driven tale.

Crusher Hogan is working maintenance at a boxing facility and spinning tall tales of how he helped create Spider-Man when he discovers a plot by one of the owners to take down a fighter. Peter gets a call from May who asks him to keep an eye on Nathan who may be in trouble. Spidey gets involved in the problems Crusher Hogan and Bobby Chance are having with Manslaughter. Felling the villain, Spidey fudges history a little and confirms his "close" relationship with Hogan, making him a hero. Peter tells Aunt May he lost track of Nathan and finds he was beaten badly and is now in the hospital.
