Highlights include encounters with the Impossible Man, the Mole Man, and the original Human Torch, as well as a classic battle alongside the Avengers against the forces of Ultron. The collection showcases the series' blend of cosmic and street-level action, with the Thing's gruff charm anchoring each story.
In "The Thing Goes South!", Ben Grimm and Alicia Masters find themselves stranded in St. Petersburg after their train to Disney World takes an unexpected detour—only to uncover a city under siege by the ancient Golem, now twisted and unleashed by the sinister mystic Kaballa. With the streets crumbling and the supernatural forces at play, Ben must confront both the monstrous might of the Golem and the eerie power of a mind controlling the stone titan.
In "The Stalker in the Sands!", the Thing faces a bizarre threat when a test flight in one of Tony Stark’s experimental spacecraft goes awry, unearthing the ancient and power-hungry Prester John beneath the desert sands—along with a mysterious alien stone that could reshape the world. With the desert suddenly alive with danger and the past rising in violent form, the Thing must confront a foe whose ambitions stretch far beyond Earth.
In "I Created Braggadoom! The Mountain That Walked like a Man!", the Thing and Power Man face off against a 300-foot-tall monster born from a scientist's runaway experiment, as the city braces for destruction. The story unfolds with a mix of sci-fi spectacle and superhero grit, capturing the chaos of a giant force unleashed with no clear way to stop it.
In "Ghost Town!", the Thing ventures to the abandoned Arizona town of Lawless on a mission from Reed, where he crosses paths with the Son of Satan. Together, they face the vengeful ghost of the town’s founder, Ravenstorm, in a showdown that turns the silent streets into a battleground of supernatural fury.
In "The Return of the Living Eraser!", Morbius and The Thing are suddenly wiped from existence by the mysterious Living Eraser, pulled into a surreal dimension where they must aid the fallen Supremor in reclaiming his throne. As they fight to restore balance in that strange realm, they race against time to return to Earth and stop the Eraser from unraveling reality itself.
In "Into the Savage Land!", the Thing ventures deep into the prehistoric jungles of the Savage Land, tracking mysterious volcanic eruptions that could destroy the planet. There, he teams up with Ka-Zar, only to uncover a dangerous scheme by the enigmatic villain V, who seeks to harness the land’s fiery power and ascend to godhood as Volcanus.
In "This City-- Afire!", the Thing fights Basilisk in the Savage Land before the villain drags them both into the heart of New York City. When Spider-Man returns from a time-jump, he finds the city under siege—lava erupting from a sudden volcano in the Hudson River. As he investigates, he uncovers the shocking truth: Basilisk has felled the Thing and is poised to bring the city to ruin.
