Marmaduke initially refuses the meager pay, but Boston teaches him a lesson about the value of a dollar and hard work by having him assist with the repairs. When a storm threatens their tent during the job, Marmaduke must learn the hard way as he struggles with a ladder and nails, eventually getting struck by the tent and other mishaps. The story concludes with Marmaduke and Boston sheltering under their makeshift tent as a storm passes overhead.
