“The Old Die Young!”

Marvel's muck-encrusted swamp guardian looms terrifyingly large on this July 1974 cover, penciled by Ron Wilson and inked by Frank Giacoia — a massive, shaggy beast advancing through the murk while shotgun blasts pass harmlessly through its body, prompting the gunman's panicked cry: "Good Lord! The bullets go right thru that thing — and he KEEPS ON COMING!!" A frightened blonde woman and her desperate companion are caught in the foreground, utterly outmatched by something that refuses to die. Steve Gerber's writing and Mike Ploog's interior art promise that "The Old Die Young!" delivers exactly the kind of atmospheric horror-adventure this memorable cover so effectively sets up.
