Magik #8
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeMagik #8 arrives near the midpoint of Illyana Rasputina's first-ever ongoing solo series — a milestone for a character who spent more than four decades as one of Marvel's most beloved supporting players without receiving a dedicated ongoing title of her own. Within the series' second arc, this issue deepens the Magik–Mirage partnership that traces its roots to the 1980s New Mutants era, presenting both women as full adults navigating questions of trust, institutional corruption, and personal addiction to power — themes unusual in a mainstream X-Men adjacent book. The introduction of the Scarlet Eye as Society of the Eternal Dawn defectors further complicates the series' central moral ambiguity, advancing writer Ashley Allen's argument that heroism is rarely separable from complicity.

The Magik ongoing series launched on January 8, 2025, written by Ashley Allen — who had previously piloted the character in the one-shot X-Men: Blood Hunt – Magik — with series artist Germán Peralta. Issue #8, released August 13, 2025, opens the back half of the ten-issue run and marks Matt Horak's debut on the title as fill-in penciller, replacing Peralta for this installment while the creative team prepared the arc's concluding chapters. The series was edited by Darren Shan under executive editor Tom Brevoort and editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski, and was ultimately collected in two trade paperback volumes.
