Magik #4 is a key chapter in Illyana Rasputina's first-ever ongoing solo series — a milestone for a character who spent roughly 40 years as a supporting player without a sustained solo run of her own. The issue deepens the arc's central tension by stripping Magik of reliable access to her mutant teleportation and sorcery simultaneously, forcing her to lean on a peer dynamic with Dani Moonstar that reaches back to the New Mutants' founding era. Writer Ashley Allen came to the Magik ongoing through Marvel's 'From the Ashes' post-Krakoa relaunch. She had first written Illyana in a Blood Hunt event one-shot (X-Men: Blood Hunt – Magik), pitching a hunter-vs.-vampires scenario that drew strong fan response; editor Darren Shan then asked her to pitch ideas for a full ongoing, and her concept was selected. Allen, a graduate of the inaugural Milestone Initiative Program class (2022) and a self-described fan of supernatural stories, drew creative inspiration from anime and manga such as Demon Slayer and Fullmetal Alchemist as well as her years playing D&D, channeling those influences into the series' magic-system-forward storytelling. Germán Peralta, known for his previous Marvel work on Loki and Black Panther, handles art throughout the run, with Peach Momoko designing each new villain for the series' design variant covers.

Issue is titled 'Reunion' and marks Dani Moonstar's first significant appearance in the series, rejoining Illyana to fight Liminal's Gravity Demon in Ecuador.
Dani Moonstar receives a notable power upgrade: her psionic neural arrows gain a magical multiplication effect, enabling her to neutralize groups of demons with a single shot — described in reviews as a meaningful expansion of her established powerset.
The Society of the Eternal Dawn is named and its membership structure is revealed; Dani is established as a member who has been given a new demon-hunting bow by the organization.
Magik's mutant teleportation (stepping discs) and sorcery are both shown to be unreliable throughout the issue, a consequence of the deal she struck with series antagonist Liminal removing her psychological barriers to the Darkchilde — only her Soulsword functions normally.
This 2025 series is Magik's first ongoing solo title after more than 40 years of publication history; issue #4 is collected in the first trade paperback, Magik Vol. 1: Unleashed (collecting issues #1–5).
