Madman Atomic Comics #2

Madman stands front and center on this striking 2007 Image cover, his pale, partially exposed form revealing a glowing heart beneath a lightning-bolt tear in his chest while one hand — rendered in vivid anatomical detail — reaches outward and the other, gloved in blue, extends toward the viewer. An exposed brain crowns his head, a metal eye-plate covers part of his face, and swirling red organic shapes fill the background, giving the whole image a visceral, surrealist energy. Michael Allred's linework, colored beautifully by Laura Allred, makes Madman Atomic Comics #2 a visually arresting entry in this series.
