“Cave Happy”

In "Cave Happy," Archie and the gang make their final descent into the mysterious underground world of the rock people, only to find themselves on the verge of a surprise — a shipment of amnesia gas is on the way, threatening to wipe their memories of the entire adventure. With the earth ship burrowing back to the surface, the group emerges at the mine shaft, reflecting on a day that, as Jughead notes, didn’t quite live up to expectations. Written by Sy Reit and illustrated by Bob White, this 1962 classic sees the beloved characters navigate a surreal, subterranean mystery with their usual mix of humor and charm. The cover by Bob White captures the whimsical tone of the tale.

In the final chapter of this adventurous story, Archie and the gang climb back into the earth ship, as another rock person runs onto the scene saying that the lab has just received a shipment of amnesia gas, a harmless gas that will make Archie and friends forget all about the rock people. The ship then burrows back out of the earth. Several hours later, they arrive at the entrance to the mine shaft and start heading for home. Reggie mentions that he doesn't like spelunking. Betty agrees. Archie says it's too boring. Jughead says that they were away all day and nothing exciting happened.
