Alors qu'il poursuit un singe-vampire, Conan rencontre la belle veuve Lia. Il rencontre également le beau-frère de Lia, Zvevo, qui se transforme secrètement en singe-vampire en utilisant le livre de magie d'Akhalla, qu'il a volé au frère qu'il a autrefois assassiné. Après une bataille acharnée, le singe-vampire est tué. Mais Conan ne peut pas se reposer longtemps car une nouvelle menace apparaît sous la forme d'un démon très familier. Wrarrl, le dévoreur d'âmes, cherche à se venger de Conan. Pour sauver la vie de Conan, Lia invoque des marins morts du fond de la mer et se sacrife en retour.
