What a delightfully unexpected twist on Legion mythology — this April 1994 issue of Legionnaires announces right on its cover that "There's a new girl in town… and she's Matter-Eater Lad!" The cover by Adam Hughes frames a wide-eyed young woman in a teal Legion costume, her expression caught somewhere between shock and alarm as a crowd of onlookers press in behind her and a "Reflectamatic 9000" device is thrust toward her face. It's a charming, humor-forward composition that sets a playful tone for Tom and Mary Bierbaum's "Chain Gang" story within.
