Laugh Comics Digest / Laugh Comics Digest Magazine / Laugh Digest Magazine #16
In "The Healers," Melody receives a mysterious stone from an enigmatic gypsy woman, only to wake the next day transformed into an old hag while the woman herself appears youthful and radiant. Written by Frank Doyle and brought to life with Dan DeCarlo’s expressive art, Jim DeCarlo’s inks, Barry Grossman’s colors, and Bill Yoshida’s lettering, this 1978 issue of Laugh Comics Digest Magazine explores the weight of a curse that can only be broken by passing it on—forcing Melody to confront a difficult choice. The cover by Dan DeCarlo captures the story’s whimsical yet eerie tone, making this a standout moment in the series.

An old gypsy woman gives Melody a magical stone. The next day, Melody has been transformed into an old hag, while the gypsy woman is young and beautiful. Melody learns that the only way to break the spell is to pass the rock, and the curse, onto another person. She decides to give it to Alex, but cannot bring herself to do it, even if it means being old and ugly forever.
