"Fatal Witness" follows Lash La Rue as he investigates a stranger named Cameo Joe who claims to have witnessed a hillside robbery, only to discover the man is actually a bandit himself; Lash must use his wits to expose Joe's deception and prevent a real bandit from framing an innocent man. In the second story, Lash attends a theater performance where a scheme unfolds involving substituted blank bullets and a plot to murder him, requiring him to outwit the conspirators and escape the theater to confront his would-be assassins.
When a drifter shoots up a stagecoach stop over a spurned romantic advance, Lash La Rue steps in to restore order—but the troublemaker soon becomes the least of his worries. A brutal robbery and murder at the nearby gold mine sets the roving marshal on the trail of the real culprit, only to discover that the man he's apprehended claims innocence, with a desperate alibi that could change everything. Can Lash uncover the truth before justice falls on the wrong man?
Roving Marshal Lash La Rue receives a desperate plea from an old friend named Ben Treadway, who's hiding a treasure map from a gang of killers—but when Lash arrives at the President Hotel in Prairie Junction, he finds Ben murdered and the remaining half of the map missing. To smoke out the killer, Lash goes undercover in a traveling theatre production, knowing the guilty party will try to steal the map from him during the show. It's a dangerous gambit that forces Lash to stay sharp when real bullets threaten to replace stage blanks.
