A spy/military story depicts agents investigating sabotage at a mountain facility, uncovering a plot involving a dangerous mission and discovering enemy activity in a subterranean chamber. "The Hawk" features a naval adventure in which the Hawk and his crew battle a Spanish galleon on the open sea, sinking the enemy ship with cannon fire before discovering a mysterious castaway washed ashore on a distant beach, with the story continuing in the next issue.
When a chain gang prisoner named Lem Daniels is tormented by visions of his dead brother Jud, he flees into the bayou, pursued by guards and his own guilt. Guided by the ghost of Jud, who claims to have been wrongfully accused, Lem is led to a burned schoolhouse where the truth of a long-buried crime begins to surface.
