Jumbo Comics #57 hits all three of its own promises — action, adventure, and mystery — in a single riveting cover image by Art Saaf: Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, clad in her leopard-skin outfit, grapples bare-handed with a snarling lion while a bleached skeleton lies at her feet, onlookers visible in the background behind a wall. The story inside, "The Arena of Doom," written by W. Morgan Thomas with art by Robert Webb and inks by the Iger Shop, sounds every bit as fierce as that cover suggests. Fiction House was delivering some of its most visceral adventure comics in 1943, and this November issue stands as a fine example of the pulpy, kinetic energy that made Jumbo Comics a newsstand standout.
