Collecting issues from the 1999 series, the stories pit the duo against a mix of classic and new threats while exploring Stargirl's legacy as a member of the Justice Society of America. The volume also features guest appearances from other JSA members, tying the solo adventures into the larger DC Universe tapestry.
In "A Chilly Day in Opal," Geoff Johns crafts a taut, character-driven chapter of JSA Presents: Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. as the Star-Spangled Kid, S.T.R.I.P.E., and the Shining Knight stand together against Shiv and the Dragon King’s forces. With dynamic art by Lee Moder and Dan Davis, the story builds momentum as Pat formally bestows the legacy title upon Courtney, setting the stage for a daring pursuit to the Dragon King’s hidden lair—where a chilling new threat to American youth is revealed. The cover by Lee Moder and Dan Davis captures the moment’s tension with striking precision.
In "A Chilly Day in Opal," the Star-Spangled Kid and S.T.R.I.P.E. team up with Starman to stop the new Icicle in Opal City, while Ted Knight is drawn into a memory of his past—when he once faced the original Icicle using his old cosmic rod, seeking help from Sylvester Pemberton to fix his belt.
In "The Final Hour for the 7 Soldiers of Victory!", Pat shares the gripping tale of the Seven Soldiers of Victory’s last mission, weaving in the quiet, enduring bond he later formed with Sylvester Pemberton. Set against the weight of history and legacy, the story unfolds with the gravity of a final chapter, leaving the full impact of their choices lingering in the air.
In "Knight Time," Shining Knight guides Courtney to safety after escaping Dr. Graft’s lab, their journey punctuated by his quiet revelation of how he ended up as a janitor in Blue Valley. Just as they reach the Dugan home, the sanctuary is overrun—minions of the Dragon King and the enigmatic Shiv descend upon the house.
In "Dragon Food!", Courtney takes up the mantle of Star-Spangled Kid as she joins forces with S.T.R.I.P.E., the Shining Knight, Mike, and Patton to stop Shiv and the Dragon King’s minions. With the fate of America’s youth hanging in the balance, the heroes race to the Dragon King’s lair, where he unveils a chilling plan to manipulate young minds through satellite control.
In "The Defiant Ones," Courtney fights to reclaim her mind from the Dragon King’s control, joining forces with S.T.R.I.P.E. and the Shining Knight to stop a dangerous threat. As the dust settles, she’s drawn into the JSA’s mission with Jay Garrick, unaware that someone unexpected has just arrived at her doorstep.
In "Heirlooms," Pat brings Courtney home to meet her father, hoping for a meaningful reunion—but when the moment falls short, she finds unexpected comfort in a thoughtful gift from Pat. A quiet, heartfelt moment between two strong women, this story captures the weight of family, legacy, and the bonds we choose.
