“Princes of Darkness, Prologue: Peacemakers”

The tagline says it all — "In the Koils of Kobra!" — as a massive, green-masked serpentine villain dominates the lower half of this striking April 2003 cover by Michael Bair, his coiling tendrils ensnaring several JSA members in a desperate tangle. Green Lantern, Stargirl, and a red-suited hero are caught in those crushing coils, while Power Girl and another teammate struggle to break free from the enormous threat looming beneath them. Writers David Goyer and Geoff Johns kick off the "Princes of Darkness" arc here, with artist Leonard Kirk and inker Keith Champagne bringing the interior action to life behind Bair's wonderfully chaotic cover image.
