The trade paperback includes issues #18-22 of the 2003 ongoing series, written by Geoff Johns with art by Don Kramer and others, as the team faces threats tied to Hawkman's ancient origins.
In "Injustice Be Done, Part 1: Divide and Conquer," the Justice Society of America faces a dire threat on Thanagar as Onimar Synn unleashes his power, absorbing all Nth metal—including the fabled Claw of Horus. With their usual tactics failing, Hawkman and Hawkgirl must forge a deeper bond, merging their spirits to reclaim the Claw and strike at the heart of the enemy. Written by David Goyer and Geoff Johns, with dynamic art by Stephen Sadowski and inks by Michael Bair, Dave Meikis, Paul Neary, and Rob Leigh, this pivotal issue features a striking cover by Rags Morales.
In "Injustice Be Done, Part 1: Divide and Conquer," the JSA is stretched thin as the Injustice Society launches a coordinated assault, forcing them to split their focus. While the team battles on multiple fronts, Johnny Sorrow turns his attention to Louis Sendak—the former Scarab—using him as a conduit to summon the terrifying King of Tears into their world.
In the aftermath of their battle with the Injustice Society, Sand, Dr. Mid-Nite, and Black Canary pursue Johnny Sorrow, racing to prevent him from summoning the King of Tears into their world. As the threat looms, the trio must confront both the supernatural danger and the lingering shadows of their own pasts.
In "Injustice Be Done, Part 4: Into the Labyrinth," Wildcat, Black Adam, and the new Spectre return to Earth only to find Manhattan under siege by the King of Tears—a force beyond even the Spectre’s power. As ancient darkness spreads through the city, the trio must confront a threat that defies their combined might.
In "Injustice Be Done, Part 5: Godspeed," the JSA faces an impossible foe as the Spectre, though restored, realizes he’s no match for the King of Tears. With time running out, Dr. Mid-Nite and Mr. Terrific devise a desperate plan: channel Black Adam’s speed into the Flash, pushing him to the edge of light itself to strike the enemy through the veil of reality. As the dust settles, the Flash finds himself stranded in ancient Egypt—face to face with echoes of the past he never knew.
In "Guardian Angels," Hawkgirl crosses paths with the celestial being Zauriel, who delivers a revelation that unsettles her long-held beliefs. Meanwhile, in ancient Egypt, Prince Khufu shares a moment of wonder with the Flash, hinting at a mystery that stretches across time.
In "Lost Friends," the JSA grapples with the aftermath of a devastating revelation: Hawkgirl is no longer Kendra Saunders, but Shiera Sanders Hall’s spirit inhabiting her body. Flash, uncovering the ancient truth behind a Thanagarian ship’s crash in Egypt and the origins of Nth metal, uses Teth-Adam’s speed to race back to the present—just as Hawkgirl vanishes, pulled to Thanagar.
In "Ascension," Hawkgirl uncovers the truth about Thanagar’s tyrannical ruler Onimar Synn and the underground resistance fighting to free their world. With the JSA at her side, she prepares to awaken Hawkman from the Well of Spirits—only for the moment to arrive just as the team lands on the alien planet.
In "Icarus Fell," the Justice Society of America faces a devastating defeat at the hands of Onimar Synn, leaving Hawkman and Hawkgirl at the mercy of their enemy. Trapped in the crumbling sky-city of Thalrassa, the duo is cast into the abyss—facing a fall that may not be the end, but certainly feels like one.
In "Seven Devils," Hawkman and Hawkgirl face execution only to turn the tide by freeing themselves and the rest of the JSA, uniting against the overwhelming threat of Onimar Synn. With the villain empowered by all the Nth metal on Thanagar—including the Claw of Horus—direct force fails, leaving the team to find a different path. The story hinges on the deep bond between Hawkman and Hawkgirl, whose combined spirit becomes the key to reclaiming the Claw and turning the tide.
