Josie and the Pussycats #55
In "Power Shortage," the Pussycats hit a roadblock when their gigs are canceled after female fans protest Melody’s influence on their boyfriends—signs reading "Ban the Body" and "Restrict Melody's Movement" appear outside their apartment. Josie and Valerie spot a surprising twist when they realize Alan M. has a similar effect on women, offering a clever, if unexpected, way out. Written by Frank Doyle and brought to life with Dan DeCarlo’s signature style—penciled by DeCarlo and inked by Rudy Lapick—this 1971 issue captures the band’s signature humor and charm, with Barry Grossman’s colors and Bill Yoshida’s lettering adding to the vibrant, playful tone.

The Pussycats can't get gigs at a local club because all the female customers are upset about the effect Melody's fabulous figure has on their boyfriends. Women are even protesting outside the Pussycats' pad, with protest signs reading "Ban the Body" and "Restrict Melody's Movement." But Josie and Valerie see a solution to their problem when they realize that Alan M. has the same effect on women that Melody has on men.
