Jonah Hex #17
Phil Noto's sun-drenched cover for Jonah Hex #17 (May 2007) sets a striking western mood, placing a long-haired woman with an eye patch and a shotgun front and center, while the scarred, hat-wearing figure of Jonah Hex stands watchfully behind her in the desert haze. The second part of "The Ballad of Tallulah Black" promises a story with this formidable woman very much at its heart, and the pairing of these two weathered gunslingers against a spare, sun-baked landscape suggests the kind of gritty, character-driven western that writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti do so well. If you've been following this run, this issue looks like a compelling continuation.
