Invincible Iron Man #25 arrived at the confluence of two major editorial initiatives: Marvel's post-Siege 'Heroic Age' publishing initiative, which called for optimistic, rebuilding narratives across its titles, and the release of the Iron Man 2 film, which the issue was explicitly co-timed with and marketed toward as a jumping-on point for new readers. Writer Matt Fraction had been building toward this reset since issue #1 of the 2008 relaunch — the Eisner Award-winning series he helmed with Salvador Larroca — and used the double-sized format to stage Tony's simultaneous personal, corporate, and technological rebirth. The Bleeding Edge armor's visual design was contributed by Marvel Studios' head of visual development Ryan Meinerding, a notable instance of film-side and comics-side collaboration feeding directly into a print first appearance.
