The Degaton Paradox" sets the stage for a sprawling 1988 annual, and Michael Bair's cover makes the threat immediately clear — a snarling, red-gloved Per Degaton dominates the foreground, his "D"-emblazoned uniform radiating menace as a glowing disembodied fist crackles with pink energy behind him. Several members of Infinity Inc. are scattered across the composition, including a green-skinned heroine, a skull-faced figure in a red cape, and a blue-costumed character tumbling across a cityscape, with a blazing energy figure visible in the distance.
